What's New In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7?

There are hundreds of new features in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. Key capabilities include:

  • The ability to isolate applications with Docker container support, allowing organizations to more quickly and easily deploy and update applications across multiple environments
  • Expanded Windows interoperability capabilities, including seamless integration with Microsoft Active Directory domains. This allows organizations to save IT budget by deploying Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 servers with lower operational cost that authenticate to existing Microsoft Active Directory domains.

  • Optimal performance through the addition of pre-built performance profiles, instrumentation, and more granular tuning capabilities.

  • Significant enhancements to scale filesystems to 500TB with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7’s default filesystem XFS and to 50TB with ext4, which many customers use as the default filesystem in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. Note that Btrfs is offered in Technology Preview in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.

  • Unified administration tools and an industry standard management interface that connects to most popular systems management frameworks through which organizations can make IT staff more efficient.
  • Optimized for several supported hypervisors, including Red Hat Virtualization, VMware ESX, and Microsoft Hyper-V, fostering server consolidation efforts.

  • Cost effective alternatives to expensive proprietary storage and high-availability solutions with iSCSI and high-availability clustering solutions.

  • Support for deeper levels of power sleep for server processors reducing the cost of power and cooling.
  • Ability to consolidate workstations and run graphics intensive applications with virtualization using VFIO pass through.
